Excess skin, vertical banding, and localized fat around the neck can alter facial proportions and add years to a person’s appearance. These changes often result from aging, significant weight changes, or hereditary factors.
Necklift surgery at Rush Facial Plastics, with offices in Chicago, Aurora, and Oakbrook, offers a clinically proven approach to refining neck contours, reducing visible laxity, and restoring sharper definition between the neck and jawline.
A neck lift procedure corrects facial aging changes near the jawline, under the chin, and in the neck, problems sometimes referred to as “jowling,” a “double-chin,” a “turkey-neck,” or vertical bands that extend down the neck. This procedure can create a better-defined jawline, reduce heaviness under the chin, eliminate neck bands, and improve the appearance and contour of the neck.
A neck lift can be done alone, but is commonly combined with a facelift for comprehensive rejuvenation. Sometimes, more minimally invasive techniques such as neck liposuction, Kybella, or energy therapies can be used to treat neck aging concerns. Our surgeons are qualified to offer you any of these treatments that will give you the best result.
A necklift offers several advantages:
Patients with increased sagginess of the neck skin, jowling, banding, or concerning wrinkles in the neck are good candidates. Candidates should maintain a stable body weight for at least six months and be non-smokers or willing to stop for a defined period surrounding the surgery.
Certain medical conditions or lifestyle factors may serve as contraindications for necklift surgery. These include significant cardiovascular disease, uncontrolled diabetes, blood-clotting disorders, or conditions that impair healing. Patients actively taking blood thinners or with a history of keloid scarring may also require careful consideration.

During necklift surgery, incisions are commonly placed behind the ears and sometimes under the chin. Through these discreet incisions, your surgeon repositions or tightens the platysma muscle, removes excess skin, and, if needed, uses liposuction to improve contour.
The procedure generally takes 2-3 hours and is performed under anesthesia. Many patients combine necklifts with other facial cosmetic procedures, such as facelifts or blepharoplasty, for comprehensive facial rejuvenation. Your surgeon will discuss the most appropriate approach based on your unique concerns and anatomy.
Following necklift surgery, mild to moderate bruising, swelling, and tightness are common for one to two weeks. Most individuals resume light activities in 10-14 days. Necklift aftercare instructions typically include keeping the head elevated, avoiding heavy lifting or strenuous activity for two weeks, and attending all post-operative appointments as scheduled.
Swelling may continue to subside over 2-4 months, and results become more refined as healing progresses. Final results may be assessed approximately 3-6 months post-surgery.
Necklift cost in Chicago varies based on the surgical plan, anesthesia requirements, and whether other procedures are performed at the same time. Costs are discussed openly during your initial visit.
