Michael Eggerstedt, MD

It was early in life that an accident left Dr. Eggerstedt with multiple facial fractures, and veered the trajectory of his career toward facial plastic and reconstructive surgery. A native of the Chicago suburbs, he performed the majority of his extensive training in the city that he loves. Following medical school, Dr. Eggerstedt was the lone surgeon accepted to the Rush University Medical Center residency in Head and Neck Surgery. There he performed over 3,000 procedures focused exclusively within the face, head, and neck. His rigorous work over the course of five years culminated in being recognized as the Rush University Head and Neck Surgery Chief Resident.

Following residency, Dr. Eggerstedt was the sole surgeon invited to join the faculty at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) where he served as a Clinical Instructor and Fellow in the Division of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, among the top head and neck surgery programs in the nation. Dr. Eggerstedt split his time between UCLA and Beverly Hills, training under some of the most sought-after surgeons in the field of facial plastic surgery while honing his skills in cosmetic facial plastic surgery, facial rejuvenation, functional nasal surgery, facial nerve reanimation, and reconstructive microsurgery.

After his intensive fellowship in Los Angeles, Dr. Eggerstedt was asked to return to Rush University Medical Center, to serve as Assistant Professor of Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, as well as Director of Research in Facial Plastic Surgery. His research is focused on tracking and maximizing outcomes for patients across the spectrum of facial plastic surgery, and has resulted in over 80 research publications, book chapters, and presentations around the country.

Drs. Eggerstedt, Revenaugh, and Smith, are among a limited number of surgeons in the country who have completed the rigorous training required to sit for both the American Board of Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery (ABO-HNS), as well as the American Academy of Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS). Despite his extensive experience, Dr. Eggerstedt prides himself on relaxed patient visits and natural results – both a product of his Midwest upbringing.
